After 15 years involvement in the SIRE programme David Savage is retiring from OCIMF on the 30th June 2009. David has been involved in the programme since its infancy and has seen it develop into the industry recognized programme that it is now.
I suspect all of you will have met David, many of you more than once, since becoming an inspector at either New inspector training courses or at the three year refresher courses. It is fair to say that the programme and the quality of the inspectors would not be where it is today without him. His dedication, commitment and enthusiasm for SIRE is outstanding.
As you may be aware David is a trustee of the seafarers charity ‘Apostleship of the Sea’, and has recently conducted two bike rides to raise money, one from ‘Lands End’ to ‘John o’Groats’ and the other from ‘Liverpool to Hull’. The amount he has raised is astonishing, and these charities are always in desperate need of money. For those of you who are unaware the AOS run a series of seafarers mission around the world, for the benefit of seafarers of any nationality.
To mark this landmark, we consider that donations to this worthwhile charity, close to David's heart, would be approprite. Please give generously, all amounts no matter how small, are welcome, and take this opportunity to add whatever words you consider appropriate to mark this special event.
WE WOULD LIKE TO KEEP THIS AS A SURPRISE AND WE WILL MAKE A PRESENTATION IT TO HIM AT THE AUDITORS MEETING, SO WE WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL IF YOU KEEP THIS VERY QUIET AND DO NOT MENTION TO DAVID.
