I have entered this tough Iron distance triathlon for a number of reasons. I enjoy training for triathlons and it is local to me. Most importantly,  I work for the MOD as a mental health clinician in the South West. I have worked with serving marines and veterans. I have seen at first hand the sacrifices that members of the Corps make and the excellent work that the RMA does. I will feel immensely  proud if I can complete this challenge and raise funds for them.

As a 'warm up' for the Iron Challenge, I have also entered the Dartmoor Discovery Ultra Marathon in June. I will update progress on my training for both events via Strava.

The event itself is one of the great sporting challenges in the UK, with three options: Full Iron / Half Iron or Olympic as follows: Full Iron - Swim 3 laps 3,900m - Bike 4 laps 182km - Run 42.2kmHalf Iron - Swim 2 laps 2,600m - Bike 2 laps 91km - Run 21.1kmOlympic - Swim 1 lap 1,300m - Bike 1 lap 45km - Run 10kmIt’s on Sunday 18th September 2022. Such is the nature of the terrain though that in the Full Iron course the cycle alone is the equivalent of going from sea level to the summit of Ben Nevis twice, and the marathon the equivalent of running from sea level to the top of Scafell Pike - the tallest peak in England.Every Royal Marines Iron Challenge team member will be doing their bit to raise money to support Royal Marines veterans, those who have received life altering injuries, and their dependents. It's our chance to give a little something back for those who have sacrificed so much for us.
