Pennine Way · 8 May 2018

Daytrippers (Bolton) is a parent and carer led self help group that provides days out and activities for all families with a disabled child living in the Bolton area. Our aim is to reduce isolation, form friendships and offer new experiences for all the family in a mutually supportive way.

I have decided to attempt the Pennine Way as a fund raiser for Daytrippers (Bolton), not because it is easy but because it is a challenge. The Way is 268 miles of National Trail, mostly on the top of the Pennines. The Way runs from Edale in the Derbyshire Peak District, skims through a corner of Lancashire, through the Yorkshire Dales and along Hadrian's Wall to the Cheviots and finishes in Kirk Yetholm in Scotland. The Pennine Way can be attempted in a number of ways.  Some people do it in stages spread over a number of years.  One man, Mike Hartley, ran it in 2 days, 17 hours and 20 minutes, a bit quick for me.  I will be undertaking the challenge in one effort. Starting on the 8 May, I plan to take 15 days to complete the challenge.  I will be staying in B&B accommodation during the challenge and will be self financing all my accommodation, meals and equipment.  You can be assured that all monies donated will go to Daytrippers (Bolton).  Thank you for reading this story and I hope it will encourage you to donate to a very worthwhile charity.
