Far too many of us have felt the pain of losing someone we love. With your donations, we power groundbreaking cardiovascular research to save and improve lives, bring hope to families, and keep hearts beating across the UK.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

A group of 10 of us are going to attempt the National 3 peaks Challenge. The Three Peaks ( Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon) are the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales. The challenge is to climb each of these three peaks - one after the other in 24 hours. I am raising money for the British Heart Foundation's research in Support for my Friends Dan & Kirsty, for those who don’t know Dan & Kirsty here is their story and the reason why The British Heart Foundation is close to their hearts.

In 2013 Dan & Kirsty’s daughter Lilia was born with a condition called " Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA), where the two main blood vessels leaving the heart, the pulmonary artery (which takes blood to the lungs to pick up oxygen) and the aorta (which takes blood from the heart to the body) are swapped over (switched).
Some babies get diagnosed with TGA on a scan before birth, however they were unaware of Lilia's condition until a few hours after she was born. Once she was given the diagnoses, she was rushed to Southampton's children's intensive care unit where a balloon septostomy procedure was carried out followed by a major 9 hour arterial switch operation.
Without the research and commitment from the British Heart Foundation she may not have been here today.

As you can see in the picture above, from when she was born to now, you wouldn’t have known, and she's is living a completely normal life other than check up's every year. Although this operation was lifesaving, problems may occur later in life so it is essential that the BHF can carry on such life saving research.

I’m sure most of you have had, or know someone that has had heart issues, so it’s a great charity to raise money for. It is so important that this life saving research can continue.

The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target.
