Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Thirty years ago my sister-in-law (and friend) Sara was diagnosed with a brain tumour. In a matter of months my brother John was a widower at 31, with two daughters - Emma (not quite 4) and Rebecca (nearly 2) - to care for. Those little girls have now outlived their mother and - poignantly - both have two children of their own, as young as they were when they lost their mother.
Recently, on a similar page to this, Rebecca wrote:
"13th July marks 30 years since my sister and I lost our mother to cancer. She was 30 when she died; as a child that always seemed quite old to me - now it feels scarily young and a little too close to home now that I am 31 and my sister is 33 and we both have two young children of our own. I can't imagine either of us not being around to watch them grow up."
Rebecca and Emma undertook a number of challenges to raise money in their mother's memory. I did the easy bit and from my armchair I sponsored them for a few pounds. But I could never give enough financially and I didn't feel I was giving enough of myself.
So, for Sara, Emma and Rebecca - and for their family and friends - I have secured a place in the Brighton Marathon on April 6th. I will be raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support. I have pledged to raise £800 but am setting myself a target of £2,026. This would "fund a Macmillan rehabilitation support team for a week, providing a range of services, including physiotherapy and diet advice, to people with cancer."
