Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In February 2015 my beautiful 49 year old wife, mother of our four children was diagnosed with a grade 3 invasive ductile tumor after going to the doctors with swollen lymph glands in her armpit. Obviously this was devastating news to us and the children. Lisa was the vision of health, size 8, slim, fit, with long dark hair. After a lumpectomy to remove the bean sized tumor and a lymph node clearance in April of that year. We had a brief respite before Lisa began the long six rounds of Chemotherapy at the MacMillian suite in Lister Hospital, and then Radiotherapy at Mount Vernon for a further month. It was an incredibly difficult time for the family, having to juggle my work with caring for Lisa after the chemotherapy sessions, making sure the house was clean and bacteria free while she was vulnerable to infection due her immune system being depleted. It was a blur of hospital appointments, getting kids to school, turning up late for work, tears, cleaning with anti-bac wipes, sweeping up hair, arranging help from friends and family, absences from work, more tears and more cleaning.

The one thing that I did everyday during Lisa's treatment was get up at 5am to run with the dog for 30 mins (3.5 miles) so that neither her or the children had to worry about walking the crazy sheep dog. Lisa, happily, is now over two years cancer free, she is recovering, back at work and working her way back to full fitness and a full head of curly hair! She is one of the faces of the #thisisme campaign featuring on social media, billboards and a book.

Running 3.5 miles everyday was my one outlet and release during the worst time of my life.  I would like to run the London Marathon to raise money so that we can help other families and women face and survive cancer, as Lisa has thanks to the fantastic care and treatment she received.
