Story

Helping to make St Mark's fit for the 21st Century!

For many years St Mark's has managed without a proper accessible toilet inside the main part of the building. This means that when we have activities and events for the community, like Toddlers, or a coffee morning for the bereaved, it is really inconvenient for children and their parents, and particularly for the elderly and infirm.

But now we have embarked on a project that will see not only an indoor toilet and a re-fitted kitchen, but also a new accessible entrance to the building, with level access and new wood and glass doors.

I have been part of the project team, and have helped to apply successfully for a number of grants, including £39,600 from the Landfill tax partners Viridor Credits, and we've also raised an amazing £22,000 from fund-raising activities of all sorts.

The total cost is about £127,000, and we still have a shortfall of about £14,000. So I've decided to do my bit, don the Lycra, and get on me bike!  As I'm still young (did someone say 53?) I've challenged myself to cycle 200 miles from Cardiff to Mosborough, Sheffield, over 2 days, staying with some good friends near Birmingham on the way.

I hope that you will support me raise my target of £1000 for this worthy cause, and allow us to finish a project that we've been planning for several years - To make St Mark's fit for the 21st Century!
