David's Cornish 175 · 6 October 2018

We support parents and carers on low incomes with essential costs when a child is hospitalised with a critical illness. This includes support with food and travel costs, as well as accommodation costs in cases where hospital accommodation is over-subscribed.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In October, my friend Bryan and I are walking 175 miles in 7 days around the tip of Cornwall (Newquay to just north of Mevagissey).  I am walking in aid of Evie's Gift, a charity set up by Bryan and his wife Patsy following the death of their lovely daughter Evie last January.

Evie died of very rare and aggressive type of brain cancer, and throughout her illness she showed remarkable bravery, resilience, and dignity.  As did Bryan and Patsy then, and still do now, despite suffering a loss I can not imagine.

You can read more about Evie's Gift by clicking the link, but in summary the charity helps the parents of critically ill children in the first days after their child is admitted to critical care, by giving them free accommodation near to the hospital and to help them eat and stay in touch with family at home.

My motivation for this walk is simple.  Evie was a special person to me from the day of her birth when Bryan asked if I would be one of her God Parents.  So this is for her.  Also, Bryan and Patsy have been my friends for over 25 years, and so this is for them. And finally, this is for the parents of other critically ill children.

So, if you can spare a few pounds to donate, it will make each of the 175 miles worthwhile.
