OCD Action's vision is of a society where Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is better understood and diagnosed quickly, where appropriate treatment options are open and accessible, where support and information are readily available and where nobody feels ashamed to ask for help.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I have never sailed in an event of this type and as an OCD sufferer its a challenge that is part of my treatment.

In September 2009 I was dignosed as suffering with OCD. I have not worked since diagnosis. What is OCD?

OCD wrecks lives

·     OCD is severe. It causes misery and isolation and can lead to suicide.

·     The World Health Organisation considers OCD to be one of the most debilitating of all health problems.

·     Over 1,000,000 people in the UK have OCD.

·     You cannot always tell whether somebody has OCD, people with the disorder often live lives designed to hide their internal pain.

·     People with OCD are bombarded by thoughts of harm and danger, they live in constant fear. Sometimes rituals help but in the end it just makes the fear worse.

·     OCD take a huge toll on family life and drives a wedge between parents and children, husbands and wives.

What does OCD Action do?

OCD Action turns lives around

·      OCD Action is the national charity for people affected by OCD. Is the home of the OCD Community, a source of support, information, hope and a catalyst for change.

·     The Charity turns around lives through its Helpline and Advocacy services. It raises awareness of the disorder through its website, schools project and awareness week. It fights for a better deal through its work with government and health organisations .

·     The Charity receives no government funding; it needs £200,000 per year to keep running.

·     Over the next year the Charity urgently needs to increase its awareness activity, reach more people with its advocacy services and ensure it has the capacity to be there for people in crisis.

Subsequent to my diagnosis I decided to help fellow suffers by raising funds for OCD Action, helping others in their treatment and in my own way attempt to increase awarness not only of OCD but the debilitating effect it can have on people's lifes and families.

I am now well on my way to recovery thanks to my family and friends who have been hugely supportive and always patient!

So please donate to help the OCD community continue to fight this heinious illness.
