A Lap of Lancashire · 3 June 2019
At the start of June, I will be taking on by far my toughest challenge, embarking on a sponsored walk in aid of mental health in men.
I, like many others, have had close friends and family whose lives have been turned upside down as a result of poor mental health and I wanted to raise funds to deliver a project to support similar people in need. The aim is also to raise awareness, so over the five day trek I will be visiting all of the EFL Football Clubs in Lancashire, in the hope that the football community will back the cause. To replicate the loneliness that many with mental health problems face, I will largely be doing this alone and camping in the great outdoors en route.
Between business and personal sponsors I am hoping to raise a minimum of £2,500 to kick start a new project which helps middle-aged men come together in a safe space and take part in positive activity. The biggest killer in men under 40 is suicide and the group that suffer most from mental health problems are males aged 30-50, which is why this is the group I am looking to help. The project will aim to target those already stressed or with mental health problems and/or those in high stress job roles within the business community.
In the 50 days run-up to the event I will also be clocking up 500 training miles to prepare my legs - which is hopefully due a donation in itself!
