In March 2020 I began a virtual bike ride from Cheltenham to Ibanda, Uganda - 9,600km, which took me exactly a calendar year until March 2021. On Jan 1st 2022, I decided to do the return journey by a different route - 10,800km. Having headed up the Dean Close Uganda Link for 10 years and visited many times, I have seen first-hand the opportunities afforded by education to so many Ugandans, many of whom are now flourishing in their careers. It is one of the greatest privileges of my life to have been involved with Nyakatukura Memorial Secondary School and the Reaching Orphans for Care child sponsorship programme. I know that this cause has touched many Dean Close pupils and their families since this link first came into existence.
