Story

Hi I'm Dave. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am running the Great Yorkshire Run on Sunday 9th October. Well I say running, i will be mixing and mashing up running, walking, staggering and quite possibly falling over for 10K (some might say thats my standard walk home from a night out). I am doing this as both a personal challenge but also to raise funds for Leeds Childrens Heart Surgery Fund.

The fund was chosen as I have found out that unit is at risk as a result of the Governments funding review. The unit provides specialist surgery and care to children from all over Yorkshire and the Humber.

If the unit were to close, the hundreds of children who require life-saving surgery each year would have to travel long distances – possibly hundreds of miles – to another facility. This could put those children’s lives in even greater jeopardy. As a parent this worries me both for my own kids and also for all the other children in the Yorkshire and Humber area. I wouldnt want my child to have to travel to Newcastle in an emergency

The web page for the charity where you can find out further details is http://www.chsf.org.uk/home please visit it and see the work that they do.

Anyone who knows me knows my aversion to exercise unless it involves kicking a football around but I am willing to let myself go through the fun of watching people coming towards the finish while i'm still only 3K into the 10 on the 9th October if it means I raise an amount to support the fund. I'm aiming to do this in under an hour but I dont care if I have to walk the whole course, I will get round it somehow

Even if you all only give a pound then we will make a good amount. Give up the morning coffee or the bun at lunch for a couple of days and help make a difference to hundreds of families in Yorkshire. It could be your child that needs these specialised people one day.

I have put no target figure in because I really want to raise as much as possible. My only target is to get round and persuade you all to part with a couple of quid.
