Hi all, welcome to my page!!
I am starting 2020 with continuing to raise awareness of an illness that steals people’s lives - Myalgic Encephalomyelitis - commonly known as M.E. (or C.F.S).
I am raising money for a particular charity - Action for M.E. who offer advice and assistance to all - sufferers or not. As a manager of someone with M.E. I have sought advice and valuable guidance to understand the condition.
Action for M.E. relies on donations from you -please consider visiting their website!
So, what is M.E.?
Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (M.E.) is a long-term (chronic), fluctuating, neurological condition that causes symptoms affecting many body systems, more commonly the nervous and immune systems. M.E. affects an estimated 250,000 people in the UK, and around 17 million people worldwide.
People with M.E. experience debilitating pain, fatigue and many other symptoms associated with post-exertional malaise, the body and brain’s inability to recover after expending even small amounts of energy.
Not everyone will experience the same symptoms so it's important not to compare someone who has M.E. to another person who has the illness. People with M.E. can vary enormously in their experience of the illness, and also how long their symptoms last. Some make good progress and may recover, while others can remain ill for a number of years and may not get better. Some people find that they don’t go back completely to the way they felt before they became ill, but they do recover sufficiently to lead happy and fulfilling lives. This is similar to many other chronic illnesses.
And lastly, aside raising money for Action for M.E. I am doing this for two amazing individuals who’s constant battle inspires me every day and with every challenge to never give up. They don’t have the luxury of saying “enough is enough”.
I have not asked permission to publish their names, but if you are reading this, you know who you are.
You can follow me on Strava!!!!! Just pop my name in and hit “follow”!! My backside could use some encouragement!!!!!
