Support my 70th birthday (June 2014) high altitude ski and hike challenge to raise funds for the Dungeness RNLI lifeboat station

a personal birthday challenge · 28 June 2014
I grew up on Romney Marsh and went to primary with sons and daughters of Dungeness fishing families who voluntarily manned the lifeboat. I still visit to buy fish and am reminded of their work each time I pass the station.
I foolishly thought it would be fun to fulfill a personal wish to test my septagenarian lungs and legs by skiing the Matterhorn glacier ,then donning hiking boots to descend on foot , about 5 hours, via the Glacier trail down to Zermatt. Some of my sons, daughters and their partners will accompany me and my wife will join the hiking part.
The 3800 altitude ski and 5 hour hike should be a good test for the ageing lungs and legs.
