Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I choose to take part for Addenbrookes Charitable Trust because of everything the amazing Doctors, Nurses, Consultants and play leaders have done for my darling Annabelle. They’ve always given Her such attentive care, doing all they can to help Her feel safe and cared for over the last few years. I am so grateful for all they have done and for all they continue to do to help her.
Over the last few years the Peak District has been a great place I’ve escaped to to walk talk and clear my head with family and friends. After the year we’ve all had I needed something to focus on and target for 2021 and this 100km ultra was the perfect challenge.
Given I was carrying injured tendons which hindered training a lot just completing the 100km course by any means necessary was the goal and somehow I survived relentless torrential rain with little reprieve, humongous lightening storms directly overhead whilst exposed on top of hills that were so loud each crack and immediately following thunder was actually a little intimidating, having blister covered sodden feet with deep heat spots that burst (with excruciating pain) for over 50k and relentless hills, variety of paths that were traitorous underfoot with slippy mud, roots rocks and or wet grass - AND a total distance that was unnecessarily longer by a seemingly inconsequential but brutally cruel 2.8k!
The only reasons I got to the end were the fact Charles was alongside when it mattered, which (thanks to my feet) was whole last 25k where fitness was not an issue but pain management was the problem and his single focus helped keeps us moving forwards despite having his own foot related issues.
Also things like a surprise visit from the family around 60k that left me holding back tears for the next 5k+ and again at 88k, then a handful of wonderful people we met along the way who passed on vital wisdom and encouragement.
I am so grateful for getting to the end and despite the inability to basically run at all or keep a decent pace in the last 35k we some how not only finished but we came 79th out of the 484 contenders attempting the full distance (of the 2000+ trying the course). Something I’m immensely proud of.
At this point we’ve raised £1700+ (inc gift aid) which is amazing but Every time we hit the donations target I’ll keep raising the bar as every £ helps - So please keep giving even if the target has been reached - thank you in advance for your generosity.
