Miles for Miswa

Miles for Miswa · 5 October 2020
In Hands at Work we say that we work with communities 'off the tar road', in other words isolated and vulnerable. As a consequence we work with some of the poorest communities in Africa.
When Jane & I visited Miswa in Zambia last year, we found it was 13.5 miles 'off the tar road'. That represents a sizeable trek to the road and back for anyone who lives there. Imagine having to take a sick child to a clinic without a car. It feels especially appropriate to walk the 64 miles of the Northumberland Coast Path to raise funds for this community.
The community acquired a borehole last year and this has enabled the care workers to establish a community garden. The funds raised will support them as they seek to build resilience in their community during the present Covid crisis and could go towards the purchase of land for a care point and the construction of a toilet and shelter.
[Please Note: If further Covid Restrictions mean I’m unable to do the
walk at this time, I will do it as soon as I’m able and will keep you posted]
