Story

In August 2018 I will be taking 3 weeks off work from my job as a Fitness and Weight Loss Specialist at the White Horse Leisure Centre in Abingdon to undertake my biggest endurance challenge yet. I am going to run, walk, climb, crawl the entire length of the South West Coastal Path, the longest trail in the UK, for Oxford Homeless Pathways. The total distance is 1011 kilometres, with a total elevation of more than 4 times that of Mount Everest.

I am doing this because I feel very angry about the fact that whole armies of people are to be found sleeping rough in shop doorways in all weathers in Oxford, centre of one of the wealthiest areas of the UK, amongst university colleges that own vast amounts of land and wealth. What must visitors from abroad think of this? Why is nobody in government addressing this problem? Why is it being left to well-intended (often poor) passers-by and charity volunteers to help these poor unfortunate people?

My aim is to raise £5000 to make a significant difference to the work of this charity, helping real people get their lives back on track in simple practical ways. I will personally be donating a percentage of the income from my fitness and weight management clients each month to boost the fund further. Please publicise this event, share via social media etc.
