Story

Michelle and David Reeves and Claire Cann will be running the Virgin London Marathon on Sunday 3rd October 2021 in aid of the charity Bowel Cancer UK and in memory of their wife, sister and cousin Rebecca Reeves.

Becca (Becs, Dino) was sadly diagnosed with bowel cancer the day before her 46th birthday in October last year. She had been suffering with stomach issues for a couple of months and had been advised she may have gall stones. Unfortunately a scan proved this not to be the case and at the time of her diagnosis the cancer had already spread to her liver and spine.

Becca bravely started chemotherapy soon afterwards but the spots on her spine were soon causing her major mobility problems. In January the cancer had caused Becca to suffer  fractures to her spine and pelvis. She had emergency surgery on her back to strengthen the area and improve her mobility. A course of Radiotherapy then followed.

Six months after her diagnosis, on 29th April 2021, Becca passed away at home with her family around her. Throughout her battle she remained positive and kept her sense of humour intact. This was despite the added burden of the pandemic, meaning visits from family, friends and work colleagues were restricted and Becca was unable to visit places, people and or love experiences she would so much have loved to do. Her back problems meant that even walking her beloved dogs was an impossible task.

Becca made it clear before she left us that she would want any donations to go to this charity. Unfortunately this is not the only time this particular disease has affected our family.

In 2014 our Dad, Stan Reeves, was also diagnosed with bowel cancer, which again had spread to his liver. After three operations and chemotherapy Dad is over the worse but still has regular checks which we pray remain positive. Dad was a massive inspiration to Becca when she was ill and was a source of positivity.

Plus our wonderful, beautiful cousin Rob Reeves who continues in his own battle against the same disease. Rob is a massive inspiration to us for his bravery and we are with him all the way. We love you Rob and if we have just a small amount of your spirit the marathon will be like a walk in the park!! Keep fighting mate xx
