Parkinsons.Me aims to be the primary source of positive information and support for people with Parkinson's and their families. We do this by providing personal and community support. Our goal is to help families look after each member’s emotional and physical health in mutually supportive ways.

Story

So, I turned half century this year and am marking the occasion with a challenge. I have always been daunted by the Outlaw Half Triathlon challenge - swim 2k in open water, cycle 56 miles and run a half marathon all in 1 day.

I am doing this in memory of a school friend and a true inspiration; Alex Flynn who died in November at age 49. Alex was up a mountain in Nepal  training to be the first person with Parkinson's to summit Everest.

Alex was diagnosed with Parkinson's at age 34. He didn't let the condition  stop him and did a lot for raising awareness and funding Parkinsons.me, including a 169 mile run in the alps and an ultra marathon in the Sahara Desert.

I know that its not in Alex's scale of challenge but its a mammouth challenge for me. I caught covid in April and was thinking of pulling out but have decided to hobble round.

There is no cure for Parkinsons so any change at all would be welcome.

Thank you!
