Story

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page…….

Having served for 30 years, in Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service and retiring in 2008, I have continued to support The Fire Fighters Charity. To bring my fundraising activities to a 42 year conclusion. I have taken it upon myself, with the support of my family and at my own expense to undertake the Discover Adventure Pyrenees Freedom Trail Challenge. Details of which are available at www.discoveradventure.com. All funds raised through this JustGiving page will go directly to The Fire Fighters Charity and not towards any costs of this challenge.

The Freedom Trail in September 2022 is a six-day trek across the Pyrenees. A trek reaching heights of 2500 metres through differing terrain, undertaking one of the toughest WW2 escape routes from Nazi-occupied France into Spain. Following in the footsteps of thousands of allied servicemen and Jewish refugees fleeing to safety.

Although arduous and steep this has been a personal challenge for me for several years to follow those that lived in fear of their lives to find a path to freedom. A personal challenge that commemorates the bravery of others, such as those fire service personnel who risk their lives daily, I will be endeavouring to raise £2,500 to support them in their time of need.

During the past two years during what has been a World-Wide pandemic. Operational and support staff of the Fire Services throughout the UK have supported their communities in carrying on with their normal duties. Whether that be saving lives from fire, road traffic incidents, flooding, rendering humanitarian services to name but a few. Throughout the pandemic Firefighters have stepped up to support their colleagues in the NHS and Ambulance Service. Supporting NHS key workers by working in morgues, carrying out porter services on wards and driving ambulances to name just a few of the roles Firefighters undertook.

Fire Service personnel have suffered, like so many others with mental health and stress. The Fire Fighters Charity stepped up to continue  offering and providing confidential, personalised support to the whole of the UK Fire Service. Delivering Mental Health, Physical Health and Social Well Being where needed throughout the UK. To see the services The Fire Fighters Charity offers please visit www.firefighterscharity.org.uk

I am now in my 66th year and remain a devoted supporter and volunteer to The Fire Fighters Charity that has been close to my heart for the past 42 years.
