2014 is the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Royal Anglian Regiment, the infantry regiment that I served in in the 1980’s as a platoon commander. The Royal Anglian Regiment was formed from the former county regiments of Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. We are a forward looking Regiment embracing “consolidation” early which has meant that the Regiment remains one of the top “recruited” regiments in the British Army.
I am running the London Marathon in aid of the Royal Anglian Benevolent Fund, the Regiment’s Charity. I am doing this in my capacity as a Trustee of the Charity and “Officer in Charge of Fund Raising in 2014”. I hope that you will be able to support the Charity and as an incentive Oakley Capital Private Equity will be matching all donations up to £20,000, we are aiming to raise £50,000. I hope that you are able to support us! The Charity currently has funds of over £3.5m and we are aiming to reach £5m over the next 10 years. The income generated from the invested assets is used to fund grants to the Charity which gives out grants on average of around £250 which are often matched by donations from other service charities such as the Army Benevolent Fund and Help for Heroes. The grants are given to serving or former members of The Royal Anglian Regiment or Former Regiments and dependants of such persons. Cases vary from assistance to soldiers on operations in Afghanistan to helping Old Comrades and their families. Each case is judged on its own merits.
A donation from you of £100 will then turn into £200, given Oakley Capital’s contribution and if then matched by another service Charity could then turn into £400, so please sponsor me!
