Story

Where’s Whalley’s Walk?

It’s a 200-mile hike from my house in Wadebridge,
Cornwall to my youngest daughter’s house near Taunton in Somerset. I’ll be walking around the northern side of the South-West Coast Path through Cornwall, Devon and Somerset, before finishing by walking across the beautiful Quantock Hills.

I’ll be starting on Tuesday 30th August and finishing on Thursday 15th September with only one day off for my 75th birthday. I am hoping that the weather will be kind to me, but plan to walk through whatever conditions are thrown my way!

Why would an old boy want to do this? Obviously I relish a little challenge and love nothing more than being outdoors in nature, but more importantly I’m wanting to raise much needed funds for the North Cornwall RDA (Riding for the Disabled).

My four-year-old granddaughter, Elodie, has additional needs and is not walking independently yet.  She goes horse riding once a week, and what a huge difference it has made to her confidence and core strength. I’ve also helped the RDA and have seen first-hand the amazing and important work they do for people of all ages with both learning and physical disabilities.  They have ambitious plans for future developments to their facilities and need all the support they can get. Please sponsor me using the Just Giving link.

If anyone wants to join me for parts of the walk then please let me know and I’ll send you details of the route. I will be going at old boy pace with refuelling stops and will welcome the company! You can also use the same Just Giving Link to raise some sponsorship of your own.

And finally huge thanks to my lovely wife Karen whose support will make this possible.
