Story
On Saturday 13th May, two members of the ELF staff team are taking part in the ultimate fundraising challenge, to raise money for the patients and families they care for on a daily basis. David and Marion are part of our group ELF Skydive, jumping out of a plane at 15,000ft with 60 seconds freefall before floating back down to earth with (we're sure) the biggest of smiles!
David and Marion are well-known faces to the hundreds of patients who pass through the Haematology Centre each week. They are excited to take part in aid of ELF, a charity that means so much to them both.
David is the Senior Driver in our Patient Transport Service, safely delivering blood cancer patients to and from their hospital appointments from all over Devon . David says:
"As this is my ten-year anniversary working for ELF, I wanted to mark the milestone with a challenge to celebrate my service with our
amazing local charity 💚. I will of course be jumping out of a perfectly safe, well serviced aircraft to complete this challenge 😱😅
I would be delighted to receive any donation you would like to make towards our exciting fundraising event."
Marion is our Patient Support Liaison. She operates out of our Filling Time kiosk and is the first ELF face that patients encounter as they await their Haematology appointments or treatment on the Yarty Ward day case. Marion says:
"ELF is very important to me. My mother was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2016 and I can appreciate first-hand the impact of diagnosis and treatment. I am taking part in the skydive in recognition of all the patients and relatives I have had the pleasure to meet – their inspiration and their resilience. I have never done anything like this before and I don’t even like heights, so I really am very nervous but also super excited!! I wish to prove that even though I’m in my 60s now with 4 grandchildren - age is just a number!!
Please join us in wishing David and Marion much luck as they take to the skies, and please sponsor their fantastic efforts for ELF.
