Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Over the last few years the Ironmongers' Foundation has identified some very worthwhile charities which it now supports. Work-Wise is a charity that helps students to gain employability skills so they can obtain and successfully complete apprenticeships. The IF has worked with the Arkwright Scholarship Trust for some years. Last year the IF initiated the funding of two Ironmonger Scholarships for high achieving pupils from low income families who attend state schools in the Midlands and North of England and who are interested in pursuing engineering-related careers.

For every additional £10,000 per annum that we could raise for the IF, this would allow it to support a new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) initiative, inspiring talented young people, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to study science subjects at school and pursue careers in engineering.

As Master Ironmonger for this year I wanted to do something to raise funds and awareness of what the IF does so I have decided to visit all 11 primary schools in England that the Ironmongers' charities support. Together with my trusty support crew of my wife Candice (in a car not on a bike!), I am going to set off from St John’s Primary School just south of Durham on Friday 9 June and I hope to arrive at Sir Robert Geffery’s School in Landrake (near Plymouth) on Monday 19 June after cycling about 700 miles (assuming I don’t get lost on the way!) via Scunthorpe, Sheffield, Rugby, Norwich, London, Salisbury and Bournemouth.
