Trinity School Staff Channel Swim · 8 August 2019
Inspired by our student team, six (brave!) Trinity staff are attempting a Channel swim to raise money for the Trinity Bursary Fund.
Following the postponement of the challenge due to poor weather during the original August window the team has been keeping their training going and now, with the winds and tides working in their favour, they are hoping to complete the swim on the evening of 16th September, 2019.
The group, including Sam Powell, Jenni Snowdon, Ian Kench, Peter Corish, and Nick Evans, will complete the challenge as a relay, as our student team did last summer, and are hoping to be equally as successful.
Although the English Channel is 21 miles in a straight line, most relay teams will cover about 36 miles during the entire swim. Our pupils have told us that swimming for an hour at a time, in 16 degree water, will not be the only challenge the swimmers will face; seasickness, jellyfish, swimming through the night and navigating the busiest shipping lane in the world are just a selection of the challenges recalled with glee by those who swam last year.
The swim is a personal challenge for each of the group, but there is another motivation pushing them in to the cold, deep water each Sunday morning. The staff involved are raising money for our Trinity Bursary Fund and would hugely appreciate the support of our students and parents to help them reach their target.
