Trek India 2007 · 13 October 2007 ·

CSW is a human rights organisation advocating for freedom of religion or belief. As Christians, we stand with everyone facing injustice because of their religion or belief.

Story

The Path to Freedom - India Trek was the first ever sponsored trek in support of Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW).  A group of 17 supporters completed the trek on 24th October 2007.

The particular focus was CSW's work with the Dalits.  When in India we also visited a Dalit village, particularly the school, and a Dalit church in Delhi.

The Dalits make up a quarter of the population of India.  There are 250 million of them which is one in twenty five of all the people in the world.  They are among the poorest of the world's poor and denied their essential humanity and basic human rights.  Seventy percent of Dalits live below the poverty line.  Only two to three percent of rural Dalit women can read and write.  They live in virtual slavery.  You can learn more about the Dalits at http://www.dalitnetwork.org/ .

A big thank you to the people who sponsored me as a result of your generosity and the quiz night and auction I have well exceeded my target of £3,000.

Please note that 100% of all sponsorship went to CSW as we allpaid our own travel costs.

Many thanks for your support.  And many thanks for taking the time to read this.
