London to Paris to Mudder · 13 April 2017
On the 4th of May 2017 a group of us will be embarking on a 4 day challenge. Gerard Burgess, John Disson, Tommy Reddington and myself (David Burgess) will start the challenge with a 3 day back to back cycle ride from London to Paris, returning to London where family and friends will join us to complete a Tough Mudder assault course on day 4.
We are doing this in the memory of our wonderful father Brian Burgess, to commemorate the ten year anniversary of his passing. It's difficult to comprehend ten years has passed since the devastating and sudden loss. Brian prioritised family, faith and fundraising for various charities. He devoted his time and energy to support and help those less fortunate, mentally, physically and financially.
One of the charities Brian supported was HCPT, where he was a volunteer from the age of just 16, founding and then leading his own group before he was 20. He continued as its group leader for more than 20 years, over that time providing hundreds of disabled and disadvantaged children with the pilgrimage holiday of a lifetime.
Brian led the Bartrès Ball, which raised money to fund the extension of HCPT's Hosanna House, to the benefit of thousands since. He was also a founder of the Race Night, which has raised £500,000 for HCPT over more than 30 years. He was a trustee of the charity and chaired the Executive Committee for several years thereafter, and his forward thinking remains influential to those at the helm of the charity today. Brian loved HCPT and the legacy of all his hard work lives on to the benefit of deserving children and adults today.
In continuing his efforts and supporting this fantastic charity which relies solely on donations from generous people (like yourselves), we are raising money for the central HCPT funds, which is essential to the work of HCPT. Your donations will go towards paying for medical supplies, subsiding the children's transportation to and accommodation costs while in Lourdes and the ongoing running costs of the charity. These funds are also used towards maintaining Hosanna House, HCPT's permanent retreat centre for adults on the outskirts of Lourdes.
We are being ambitious and have set a target to raise £10,000. Ideally, we want to smash this target but we really do appreciate anything you can donate towards this cause. We know there are lots of charities out there worthy of your money but please spare whatever you can for us.
Thank you xx
