We were asked over lunch if we fancied going on a nice country walk for charity with Deloitte, which we accepted without too much thought. I think for us both it was one of those moments that if you could go and take back you would. The following week an e-mail arrived which informed us that this charity walk was in fact the 55 mile route of the 10 Tors in. Not only that but it starts on Friday the 13th June (Great Planning!!) and we have to complete this by 15.00 on the 15th.

Fortunately someone organising this decided that to go straight in at the 55 mile level was a little extreme, and so reduced the mileage to 45.....and then decided to make it 13 tors instead of 10!

After speaking to a good friend of mine who used to be a marine and has done this on more than one occasion, I realised what we had got ourselves into when after 10 minutes of uncontrollable laughter he managed to utter the words "You... 10 Tors" and fell about laughing again. With this overwhelming support I have sensibly chosen to live in denial and pretend it simply isn't happening. Obviously the closer it gets the more scared I become, but have every confidence in achieving what so many think is a stupid thing to even consider.

This challenge is a test of endurance, navigation and above all teamwork, with teams made up of five or six members.  Mark and I will be flying the flag for Credit Suisse (others were asked but politely declined... you know who you are!)It is not a race.  Time is not important – finishing as a team is!  Those who cross the finishing line gain the satisfaction and pride of knowing they have completed one of the most arduous expeditions people can undertake intoday.
