The Pepper Foundation funds Hospice at Home care for children in Bucks and Herts. We believe that during this terribly frightening and difficult time, children and their families should be given the choice to be cared for at home, surrounded by the people and belongings they love.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. The words are best left to Becky:

Hi, my name is Becky and for those of you who don’t know me I'm Dave’s wife and Darren’s friend. When these two crazy men decided to run 100km for charity I asked them if they would run for The Pepper Foundation. They kindly accepted.

The Pepper Foundation is a charitable organisation offering hospice at home palliative care for life limited children in and round the Buckinghamshire area. It’s a charity really close to my heart.

Here’s my story…..

In 1993 my big sister Rachael was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, she was just 14. After 2 years of treatment which included a bone marrow transplant we were told the devastating news that the cancer had returned and was now terminal. Knowing that we were going to lose her was utterly unbearable but we knew we had to make the time she had left as easy as possible on all of us. This meant her being at home where she could see her friends and live as normal a life as possible.

Shortly after we received the news we were introduced to a lady called Heather who was a nurse from the Pepper Foundation. Having Heather, who was on call 24 hours a day 365 days a year, in our lives meant that all of Rachael’s palliative care needs were met at home where she was most comfortable. It also meant that when Rachael died, she was at home surrounded by the her family. Heather was with us every step of the way offering invaluable support and care, not only to Rachael but to us all.

After Rachael died, The Pepper Foundation, through Heather, continued to provide us with support through grief counselling which helped us all deal with the unbelievable hole that was left in our lives. I will never forget what the Pepper team did for us.

I’m glad I don’t have to know how we would have managed without the support of The Pepper Foundation and it’s donations like yours that mean another family won’t have to either.  Please be as generous as you can be as I can tell you from personal experience this is such a worthy cause.
