Story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.

Myself and Eddie Hanratty were part of a group cycling from Coast to Coast  on the 3rd to the 5th July 2009.

for the 126.7 miles it took us 12 hours 35 minutes and 14 seconds of cycling!

We took a slightly different route from last year (to find a better hotel believe it or not!) as follows:

Friday 4th July (an easy start)

10am start, Whestsheaf Inn, Chester-le-Street to Roker Beach, then 2pm Whitehaven to Cockermouth

total 23.4 miles 2 hours 15 minutes

Saturday 5th July (the big slog)

9am start, Loweswater, around Bassenthwaite Lake, Langwathby, Hartside Pass via the offroad route for Tea and cakes (well deserved ), then to Alston for supper, and guest appearances at Alston Gala Day!

total 56.6 miles 5 hours 53 minutes

Sunday 6th July (homeward bound)

9am start, Nenthead, Allenheads, Rokehope bank upto Crawleyside Cafe - a sprint for the next 20 miles to the finish via a quick pint in the Jolly Drovers in Consett, and back to our start point the Wheatsheaf pub in Consett for another few pints!

total 46.7 miles 4 hours 26 minutes

Why do this ?

On September 28, 2003 David's mother passed away from Motor Neurone Disease - its a terrible condition that basically stops your body movements working, yet does not affect the brain - effectively trapping the person in their own body.

Approximately 5000 people have it in the UK.

From diagnosis, more than 50% die within 18 months. Their is no known cure.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: the Motor Neurone Disease Association will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor us now!

Many thanks for your support.
