Earl Mountbatten Hospice - Walk the Wight 2012 · 13 May 2012 ·

Mountbatten is the Isle of Wight's only hospice and is known for innovation across the UK and beyond. We provide expert medical, nursing and domiciliary end of life care and bereavement support to people in their own homes, including care homes, in our Newport building and in the local hospital.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Three years' ago, my partner Tony's father was cared for exceptionally well by the kind staff of the Earl Mountbatten Hospice on the Isle of Wight.

In 2010, Tony and I - along with some good friends - took on the challenge of walking right the way across the Isle of Wight from Bembridge to the Needles in his memory and to raise money for the hospice that cared for him so well.

The Isle of Wight is over twenty-six miles from end-to-end, and is very hilly in places, particularly towards the Needles (which is where the walk comes to its end).

We all made it, and we even appeared on Isle of Wight Radio and in the County Press (which was exciting). We had a few blisters and stiff joints to show for it the following day, as well.

More importantly, thanks to the kindness of friends and family, we were able to raise an amazing amount of money for the work of the Hospice.

This year, a group of us have got together to do it again, and I hope I can impose on the generosity of my friends once more.

I know that you are probably always being bombarded with requests for donations for good causes from family, friends and work colleagues. And, I completely understand if your charitable donations are focussed elsewhere.

Nonetheless, I am hoping you can spare few pounds for this very worthy cause. Thanks very much in advance.

You have probably used JustGiving before. If not, here's an explanation of how it works: Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
