Story
During the Spring of 2014, David and I shall be working on a cricket related project in Botswana on behalf of a charity called Cricket Without Boundaries. This work will be based around teaching cricket in schools and spreading the message regarding HIV and AIDS prevention.
Cricket without boundaries is a UK cricket development and AIDS awareness charity which is almost run entirely by Volunteers and 3 key goals:
To spread cricket through coaching children and teaching adults how to coachTo Link the sport to HIV/AIDs awareness and incorporate these messages into coaching sessionsTo bring together and empower local communities through cricket
To highlight the scale of the problem; In 2011 there were an estimated 23.5 million people living with HIV/Aids in Sub-Saharan Africa. This figure represents a staggering 69% of the global HIV/Aids burden, which currently stands at 34 million. UNAIDS believe that there have now been over 1.2 million Aids-related deaths in the region and during 2010 alone there were approximately 1.9 million new HIV infections. Over 90% of children who acquired HIV in 2011 live in sub-Saharan Africa, mainly due to the fact that 92% of pregnant women living worldwide with HIV reside there also.
In order to ensure our project is sustainable we will be leaving the schools we teach at cricket equipment, this is where the fund raising part come in!!
Combined David and I need to raise a minimum of GBP 2'500 in order to fund the purchase of the Cricket Equipment (Please note all donations will go exclusively towards Cricket Equipment, all expenses related to travel/accommodation etc will be paid direct by David and from our own pockets).
In order to raise the necessary sponsorship we have arranged a sponsored hike to the top of one of Norway’s tallest Mountains, Gaustatoppen (Height 6,178ft) in full cricket gear. Once on the top we have arranged to have a small match with fellow members from the Oslo Aliens Cricket team. We would be extremely if you will be generous enough and make a donation to help support us in our journey.
Many thanks
Tim and David
