David and Michelle’s 2012 Cycle Challenge
Thank you so much for spending the time to ‘ land ‘ on our page!
Over the years we have cycled our socks ( and bums! ) off to raise money for a number of charities and this year have signed up to cycle from Cape Cod to Provincetown on the Eastern seaboard of America!
The total miles will be 240 each over six days and when we complete this ( we guarantee we will complete it! ) we will have cycled a total of over 1580 miles to raise much needed funds for our chosen charities.
This year we have chosen to split our fund raising between two charities that are very close to our hearts – Firstly the Hairdressers Benevolent, that is our own hairdressing charity, where I sit on the fundraising committee. This is a totally self funded charity that looks after individuals and their children that have worked in the hairdressing industry. The cases that we hear each month are heart rending – this is one of them
Campbell Stoddard is 15 and has epilepsy, hydrocephalus and severe developmental delay. He is confined to a wheelchair and is cared for by his mother (Campbell's dad walked out when Campbell was born). His mother as well as looking after Campbell still works part-time in a local salon. HABB have purchased a specially adapted car seat, video monitor and sensor pad and financed a vehicle adaptation to accommodate Campbell. We also gave his mother £500.00 while Campbell was in intensive care a few years ago as she was unable to work as she was constantly at his bedside. HABB has supported Campbell since 1999 – his mother has been in the hair industry for 29 years. This is real charity dealing directly with individual cases.
Our other charity is Alzheimer’s UK –Defeating Dementia, which we now support following the diagnosis of dementia , and eventual passing away, of Michelle’s father. Having devoted his life to nursing Michelle’s mother through twenty two years of Multiple Sclerosis the family were devastated when Michael showed signs of dementia. His decline, first gradual, then accelerated, showed what a terrible disease this is. Alzheimer’s UK is the leading research charity funding pioneering scientists to find preventions, treatments and a cure for dementia.
Both these charities are seriously important to us so we really appreciate any support you can give. Haringtons have very kindly funded the entire bike ride for us so every single penny you donate will go to our two special charities! Our target is £4000 but why stop there! Be the first to donate and put a message on our board. As well as this donation site we are running raffles in all the Haringtons salons, and other fundraising activities such as Sunday brunch ‘ A la - Come Dine With Me’ and a number of seriously stupid stunts.
Thanks again for supporting Michelle and myself....all we have to do now is get on those bikes.........and ride like hell!
