The Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Race · 15 April 2006 ·
On Easter weekend, Peter Luck and I are taking part in the Devizes to Westminster Canoe Race. This is a continuous 125-mile race and will take us approximately 24 hours, paddling through the night!
The money pledged will go to the Wessex Autistic Society and will be put towards the building of a swimming pool at Portfield School in Christchurch , Dorset . Portfield educates and cares for autistic children and is a cause very close to our hearts as my wife’s beloved sister, Jane, was a very happy pupil there for 8 years until she died aged 12.
The pool has been designed specifically with the needs of the children in mind and includes an area for the children to develop their swimming skills, keep fit and learn about water safety, a paddling area for the younger children and a sensory area with bubbles and coloured lights for those who need to learn how to relax. All the children at Portfield find it difficult to communicate and interact with other people. The pool will provide opportunities for them to learn to share and play games with others.
Your sponsorship for such a good cause will help spur us on during the toughest moments of this huge personal challenge.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Wessex Autistic Society will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
