Story
Towards the end of 2020, during the pandemic lockdown and out of nowhere, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. In May 2021 I had major surgery to remove the cancer. 3 months of recovery and rehabilitation followed and 3 months later I got my results back to confirm I have the all-clear.
Thankfully it was still contained within the prostate, and I was able to treat my cancer. I hated the surgery, and the recovery after, it was tough both mentally and physically.
After becoming involved with Prostate Cancer UK following my diagnosis, it felt only right to support them raising awareness and donations. Hopefully, I’ll be helping to find a better test to deliver a screening programme and fund the research that will one day stop prostate cancer altogether.
Having now been through it I just want to urge anyone that has any mild symptoms for anything to just get it checked to be on the safe side. So many cancers are curable if caught early enough and having mentioned this privately to people I know I have been concerned by how many people (especially men) have minor symptoms for stuff that they haven’t seen anyone about.
Two years on from my diagnosis and surgery I still have ongoing issues, my consultant has just discovered that a clip/staple used during my operation has broken free and is loose within my bladder causing huge control problems, which is frustrating and inconvenient, but it could be much worse.
Once again, I’m raising awareness and money for Prostate Cancer UK through various different challenges and ventures. At the end of the month, on May 28th I will once again be cycling in the RideLondon Essex sportive, 100 miles from Victoria Embankment in Central London out into Essex and finishing back in London on Tower Bridge.
Last year I raised around £2500 through various endeavours, and I am really hoping to raise as much as I can this year to help other men that find themselves in the position I was in.
You too can stand together with me to help beat the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK.
Any contribution you can make, not matter how small, will be massively appreciated and will go a long way to helping.
