David Britton is raising money for Velindre Cancer Centre

The Maxwell Family Fund · 5 December 2023 to 1 January 2027 · Start fundraising for this event

The Maxwell Family Fund held by Velindre, has been created in support of Craig Maxwell and his family to continue to fund new research and developments in the field of genomics and lung cancer.

Story

Raising money for the Maxwell Family Genomics Fund. In September 2022, at the age of 40, my friend Craig Maxwell was diagnosed with incurable stage IV lung cancer. He and his family decided to focus their energy on raising vital funds to support and help the cancer diagnosis pathway in Wales, speeding up diagnosis and supporting quicker treatments for patients. I am setting up this page to help them with their fundraising.

Craig will walk & cycle over 780 miles of the Welsh coastal path, representing the 78 days it took him to receive his diagnosis. In 26 days, mirroring the QuicDNA project’s goal of reducing diagnosis time, Craig will reach the Principality Stadium on March 10th for the Wales vs. France Guinness Six Nations match accompanied by his children, Isla and Zach. Craig will carry the match ball the entire distance, symbolising our collective fight against cancer and coming together at the National Stadium of Wales.

I plan to join Craig for 2 days of his expedition. This will include a 27 mile walk along the coast path from Pwllcrochan to Stackpole on Day 19, then another 27 mile walk from Stackpole to Pendine on Day 20.

Please sponsor me for those walks. By catching lung cancer at an earlier stage it increases the chance of survival significantly. The money raised for this event will go towards improving early detection of lung cancer so incredibly worthwhile.
