Story
Hello again, at last a further update.....
I'm very pleased to say that 2 days ago I completed the walk, all 630 miles 'without a break' in 43 days. It was tough, very tough, but absolutely inspirational. I met many people who wished me luck and donated towards the charities. I heard stories of celebrity suicide and tragic ship wrecks. I met two walkers who were a day apart because they couldn't agree where to start! I experienced the 'typical' British Spring weather. I got through it without injury apart from one small blister. Thank you everyone for your very generous donations and words of encouragement. I hope to update with a photo 'at the finish' with Tiverton Rotary and 'Friends of Hospiscare' colleagues.
Hi Everyone, I'm sorry I'm so late with updates. Walk is going well though I am being buffeted by 45mph winds which is exhausting. Thankyou so much for all of your donations. I've met some lovely people. Have completed almost 300 miles. photos to follow. Thanks again, Dave Harvey.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name is David Harvey and I am 63 years old, a former soldier and retired police officer. I am one of a family of five children and we lost our father Ron in 1974 when he was only 50 years of age.
I am a father now of two grown up children and one grandson. Although I am retired, I am a Tiverton Rotarian and working as a volunteer for Hospiscare.
During April and May 2014 I will be challenging myself and nature by walking the 630 mile South West Coast Path in 43 days. I will be carrying a rucksack and a tent and will be spending many of my 42 nights under canvass….not bad for a 63 year old!
I will be undertaking this challenge in memory of my father and for 3 marvellous South West Charities which support families currently experiencing serious illness and those that have tragically lost loved ones, young or old, through illness or disaster.
The charities I am fundraising for, from my SWCP Challenge, are the Exeter, Mid and East Devon Hospiscare, for whom I am a volunteer driver and whose staff and patients are an inspiration. The Childrens Hospice South West, whose nurses care so professionally for ‘life – limited’ children and their families. And finally, the Helston based, ‘Shelterbox’ who are currently almost constantly on demand to provide temporary accommodation and essential support to disaster victims, young and old, around the world.
Donating through Just Giving is simple, fast and totally secure. So please dig deep and donate whatever you can to either one or all of my chosen charities. Just follow the links. Thank you so much for any donation you make, it is hugely appreciated…. David Harvey.

January 2014:-
To reassure any potential 'donors' - I am working hard on my stamina and endurance fitness. I am currently completing a 5 mile (Cotteylands hill / 7 Crosses circuit) almost daily. When I can't do that circuit I have a 45 min schedule on my Cross Trainer (see photo) which tests my heart and lung stamina. It's hard work but it has to be done!
Thank you Chris Parks for starting the ball rolling for Hospiscare, Much appreciated, Dave Harvey.
Feb Update: My training si going well and physically I feel quite confident. Weather wise - well let's hope there's still some SWCP left after these storms!
10 Feb. Thank you Vicky, your encouragement goes a long way...630 miles I hope! Dave.
21Feb. Along with other committee members, I attended a 'Friends Of Hospiscare Committee' lunch yesterday at the Bickleigh Mill, Nr Tiverton, organised by Pam Smith the Chairman. We had a great time and raised £60.00 to go on the Hospiscare Sponsor Form, the total of which will be added to this page at a later date. Many thanks everyone, Dave.
02 March. Thank you Terry and Jo for a very generous donation. Your supportive comments are a great incentive, many thanks, Dave.
01 April. Thank you very much to Dave and Heather for your £20. Very much appreciated and more incentive to keep me going. Thank you. Dave H.
03 April. Thank you Peter Hutchinson for your generous donation. I am more determined than ever to achieve the 630 in 43. Dave H.
