British Heart Foundation - Climb Kilimanjaro · 2 September 2010 ·
Hello and thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This September I will be attempting to climb Kilimanjaro the highest peak on the African continent and one of the largest free standing mountains in the world. To reach the summit will take around 8 days and we aim to reach the highest point in Africa at 19,342 feet, trekking through extremely cold and windy weather conditions with a 50% fall in oxygen levels. For someone who spends most of his time sat in front of a computer this is a challenge of epic proportions!
As well as completing this challenge I will also be taking part in the London to Brighton bike ride on Sunday 20th June. This is a 54 mile cycle starting from Clapham Common and ending on Madeira Drive on the seafront. Starting at 6.30am I shall be aiming to complete this in under 4 hours, this will be a good event to gauge how well my training and fitness is going, looking towards climbing Kilimanjaro.
I will be undertaking this challenge in aid of the British Heart Foundation who since the 1960s have been leading the way in heart research. BHF researchers and scientists have solved many problems that have led to breakthroughs that have saved thousands of lives. All the money raised for the BHF will go towards funding initiatives like the Heart Research work, paying for BHF Heart Nurses, Heart Equipment in Hospitals and in the Community and Education and Awareness campaigns. All the work they undertake would not be possible without personal dedication and the levels of investment in research.
The minimum amount I need to raise is £3750 but I aiming to raise £5000 as it is a very worthy cause. Of that amount I will personally donate £1950 to cover the travel and accommodation costs for the trip meaning that ALL the money that is donated by yourselves and others will go directly the British Heart Foundation.
