Story
I'm running for The Mustard Tree because it's an inspiring organisation, staffed by inspiring people, doing great work for those who are down on their luck
- and they need our help.
I've been to The Mustard Tree local outlet in Eccles and to the main hub in Ancoats. There's clothing and food, yes, but also furniture, help with finding accommodation and rent and even courses on cooking, IT and life skills. And everyone is so enthusiastic! Do have a look at their website.
Over the last few years I've become increasingly concerned about the ever widening divisions in our society. The more I have learnt about The Mustard Tree the more I have realised the extent of this problem and the more I have appreciated the skills and dedication of those who are working to help out.
So here I am, attempting a half marathon to raise funds for The Mustard Tree. I did complete a full Bolton marathon when I was 40 - before Mo Farah was even born - so it does seem appropriate to try for the half now that I'm 80.
I don't expect Sir Mo to jog alongside me for much of the race but it's good to know that I'll be in good company.
I do hope that you will support me on 22nd May!
NB The photo shows me at the start of training in March - in a snow storm!
