Story
There are 24 million people in Yemen needing humanitarian assistance as a result of the consequences of conflict in the area. There are massive issues with resource distribution, and many struggle to get access to the basic necessities, such as food. This has been made worse by the biggest ongoing outbreak of cholera, as well as the Covid-19 pandemic.
Tearfund partners with local communities and organisations to get aid to people in an environment that is often quite difficult to navigate. They've already provided more than 147,000 people with sanitation support and helped 30,000 people get monthly food assistance packages. They're really transparent, and you can read all about what they do and where the money goes here: https://www.tearfund.org/about_us/what_we_do_and_where/countries/asia/yemen/
A group of friends and I are each doing a 24-day challenge to fundraise £1000 for Tearfund's work. You can read about what the others are doing here: https://www.justgiving.com/team/24DAYCHALLENGE
I'll be writing a poem everyday for 24 days, which will be... interesting? I might do a different format of poem each day. The idea is to compile them into a zine at the end, which I can send to people who sponsor me (not sure whether it will be digital or physical or both yet). There's not a minimum amount, so whatever you can give will be very much appreciated! I know things are difficult at the moment.
In addition to this, I really encourage you to write to your MP about the crisis in Yemen. The UK currently sells the arms to Saudi Arabia that are used in the conflict - you can read an article about it here: https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2020/jan/24/britain-must-be-held-to-account-for-its-role-in-the-war-in-yemen
Thanks in advance for your support! I really appreciate it!
