Due to foul weather predictions, Ken has changed his day from Saturday to Sunday - thanks to all his supporters, who have rallied round to support this new date and apologies to those who had volunteered for Saturday and now can't make Sunday.

Sunday 23rd August 2020, the legend that is Rossendale's Ken Taylor is aiming to complete the Joss Naylor Challenge in Cumbria - which traverses 30 summits over a distance of 48 miles and includes climbing of 17,000 feet (77km/5182 metres)

Two years ago he took on another challenge - the Bob Graham Round - and, at 71, became the oldest person to complete it in well under 24 hours!  That time he raised over £1,700 for the Christie Hospital.

Typically for Ken, he has set himself a target time of 15 hours for this Challenge, which is the allotted time for completion by Males 55-59 years of age!  Starting at 3am on Sunday 23rd August 2020, he hopes to complete the challenge within 15 hours and then, no doubt, find a pub to serve him some beer and food!

He is currently gathering together a team of supporters, as
mandated by the rules for Health and Safety reasons.

In addition to completing the route, successful contenders must raise at least £100 for a charity of their choice.  Joss’s Challenge involves climbing 30 tops, crossing some 48 miles of mountain terrain and ascending nearly 17,000 feet, (77km, 5182m) with only two road crossings.  The route starts in Pooley Bridge, Ullswater and finishes at Greendale Bridge, Wasdale.

Full details of the Joss Naylor Lakeland Challenge including the history, schedules and accounts by successful contenders are available on the official blog - see below.

Donations - As part of the Challenge ethos, a donation to a chosen charity is required and Ken has left that choice to me.

As I spent 12 weeks from April to June as part of a team of North West Ambulance Service Enhanced Community First Responder (ECFR) volunteers working alongside the North West Air Ambulance crews, transferring COVID-19 Critical Care patients between hospitals, I got to know the NWAA crews, pilots and ground crews and saw the amount of work these fantastic people do.  Most charities have suffered serious losses due to COVID, including the Air Ambulance, and it would be excellent if, with your help, Ken can raise some money towards this excellent charity.  We do hope you can support Ken in his Challenge and fund raising efforts and give generously to NWAA.

Thank you so much for your support - Dawn
