Story
Update 27/5/10 - Back to reality with job done!!! 9 months planning and 6 months solid training gave me a respectable 13 hours and 18 minutes time - Happy with That!!! I had a great week in Lanza and really enjoyed the whole race day atmosphere. You never know I might just manage another one!!!
Thanks to everyone for all the donations.
Update 17/5/10 - Well thats it, training done, bags packed and ready to go, just need flights to be back on!!! Still time for you to donate if you haven't already done so. Many Thanks to all those that have, Cheers!!!
Update 5/4/10 - Race Day is less than 3 weeks away now and I'm raring to go. Legs are feeling better after my crash and I've generously been loaned a superb bike by a fellow triathlete. Just got to stay fit, healthy, germ free and hope the ash cloud doesn't throw another spanner in the works.
Please sponsor me if you haven't already done so, Cheers!
Update 20/4/10 - Cars & bikes dont go together, especially when their paths cross! I got an enforced week off this week due to sore, stiff and bruised legs but hopefully I've done enough training to cope with it! Thanks for all the sponsorship so far!!!
In 2006 I decided it was time to get fit (and try and raise some money for the centre), after 15 years of pulling pints I was hardly in great shape. I hadn't run or done any excercise since leaving college some 17 years earlier, but that didn't stop me entering the Sheffield Half Marathon. 1 hour 47 minutes - job done and I had got the bug!!!
Fast forward to now, 6 half mara's, 4 mara's, 1 half ironman and a spattering of triathlon & duathlons later, and I've finally lost my marbles!!!
The Lanzarote Ironman - 2.4mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run, ranked as 1 of the hardest in the world, but I'm in!!
Anything under 14 hours will do, but anyone that knows me will know that I shall be pushing for as fast a time as possible.
Update 24/3/10 - 5 days training in Lanza 16-21st March - Warm weather & sunshine makes training much more enjoyable. 4 good days of riding culminated in completing 104 miles of the 112 mile bike course in a little over 7 hours. Yes there are hills but the worst thing is the wind, hopefully it wont be that strong on race day! The sea was salty but OK for swimming and the run course is flatish, in general I found it OK.
Training now has to resume in the wet and cold with the next 5 weeks being the final push before taper. Race day is only 8 weeks away!!!
Please Sponsor me and help me hit my target for both The Dinnington Resource Centre & The Childrens Hospital Clown Doctors Appeal.
£1000 will buy a clown doctor every week for a year for 1 ward!!
£1000 for the Resource Centre will enable the centre to continue its provision of a Gentle Excercise Class and a Luncheon Club for the over 55's every week for a year!!!
