Deafblind UK climb the O2 · 9 May 2016

Living with deafblindness can be incredibly lonely, isolating and scary. Our specialist support helps people cope emotionally and practically. We listen, advise, care, support, coach, mentor and connect people. We help people to live better with sight and hearing loss.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As some of you may know, I have Usher Syndrome and this means I have both hearing and sight loss.  Obviously this affects my every day life and I am lucky enough to have my precious guide dog Sula and fantastic Communicator Guide to help me, as well as some rather amazing sparkly hearing aids.

Something else that also helps is the brilliant Deafblind Club run by Deafblind UK, through which I have made many friends and means I feel a little less socially isolated.  We do arts and crafts activities, have interesting speakers such as the Pearly King and Queen who came in recently and, more than anything, we chat and keep our sense of humour. As funding decreases for many charitable groups, we are determined to keep our club going through raising our own money for Deafblind UK.  Steph, DBUK's Senior Outreach Worker who runs all the clubs across Essex, is superb, as are our lovely volunteers too so we want to say thank you to them.

On Monday 9th May a group of us will be climbing the O2 on a walkway suspended 52 metres above ground level, a real challenge for everyone involved.  There's no lift, no escalator and no-one to carry us!  Unfortunately Sula can't come with me so we are lucky to have extra support from sighted guide humans.

Any donations would be so hugely appreciated.  Thank you.
