Story

So if I haven't told you already, last year I broke my arm. I became super  grateful about everything I was able to do before, that I wasn't able to do with a broken arm. From writing, typing, cooking, driving and of course, being healthy and staying fit.

After surgery, I wanted to make an active attempt at getting to peak  fitness for a sustained amount of time through a blend of weight training at the gym and cardio. Having completed the London Marathon in 2017, I thought I had fallen out of love with running, but what I was looking for was a reason to run.

To stimulate this and catalyse me back into running, I signed up for the New York marathon in November 2018. But, that's a long way off and, despite other marathons closer being available, I thought it would be an awesome landmark achievement.

Then, as of this morning, on Twitter, I saw a Tweet for the Manchester marathon. It's taking place in 30 days time. Impulsively, I challenged myself to see whether I could get 'marathon fit' within 30 days and signed up.

So... I now have 30 days to get marathon-fit, something only I can hold myself accountable to do. I also have 30 days to raise £400 for the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. Something that anyone willing can support me with.

I really want to do daily updates, each day leading up towards this physical challenge. Over the next 26 days of training in preparation I will do 155 miles. 20 of these will be at altitude in Morzine, France at nearly sub-zero temperatures. I am giving up alcohol, gluten and meat; turning vegan - against every humorous criticism I have ever given the vegan community.

So if you enjoy this content, want to support a local charity and can spare some disposable income - then thank you, and see you at the finish line in 30 days.
