Text STLY77  £1/£2/£3/£5/£10 to 70070

A child is like a butterfly in the wind, some fly higher than others, but each one flies the best it can. A metaphor it may well be but it is our aim for our boy to not fly but soar, in the best way he can.

Regular physiotherapy is a key element to achieving the best possible outcome for Stanley, who has cerebral palsy. Born at 26 weeks his young life has been besieged by physical struggle. As he has grown, the mental toll is becoming apparent; he is a very academically able and aware seven year old who feels frustrated a great deal of the time. For him to be able to access quality therapy - in the form of a fortnightly physio session and an intensive block once a year would be simply incredible both physically and mentally.

2 week intensive block session
The Freddie Farmer Foundation is a therapy centre in London which specialises in intensive physiotherapy using techniques not offered on the NHS - ‘spider therapy’ being one. The therapists use a series of bungee ropes in a frame that support the child in any position while the physiotherapist carries out exercises to help develop and build the child’s muscles. Bungee-like cords are attached to allow the child to learn new and correct patterns of movement through strengthening and functional skills practice. Stanley has recently completed a block of therapy here and the results were impressive, we’d love for him to be able to go back. Fortnightly physiotherapy sessions for a year
Jane Reynolds is a senior paediatric physiotherapist who has been involved with Stanley since he was diagnosed at 8 months old. Having left the NHS she now works alongside the team at Total Children’s Therapy. The bond she has with Stanley has proved hard to replicate with other therapists which guarantees sessions which are successful. Stanley is currently being assessed for a possible ASD (autistic spectrum disorder) diagnosis so an understanding of what makes him ’tick’ is fundamental, something which Jane has in spades.

Employing both strategies - a regular session alongside an intensive block would have a wonderful impact on Stanley, however we need help to make it a reality and it is for this reason that we are hoping to raise £3000.

Thank you for reading and considering being part of Stanley’s journey
