Eve's Fundraiser for Snowdrop

Snowdrop Superstars · 28 April 2019
Our 4 year old daughter Eve and our family have received amazing medical care and support from The Sussex Snowdrop Trust. I am hoping to raise as much money as possible for this incredible charity by running The 2019 London Marathon. Becky and I will also be organising other events throughout my training to keep the total climbing and my motivation high!
The Sussex Snowdrop Trust provides care at home for children with life-threatening and terminal illnesses and also support to their families. It does this in many ways; through their community nurses, nurse support carers, counselling services, volunteers and by providing financial help to families. Find out more on their website - they really are incredible and rely solely on charitable donations.
When Eve, our eldest daughter, was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition at two and a half years old, we were referred to The Snowdrop nursing team. Having been through a rollercoaster year of various hospital admissions we were a mixture of relief as well as fear and uncertainty as to what her diagnosis would mean.
Our Snowdrop nurse, Anna, came to see us at home, listened to our story (it took a while!) and immediately made us feel like we had someone looking after us to help us navigate the difficult and sometimes frustrating journey ahead. At a time when everything was changing for our family, they provided emotional support through Phil the councillor, which was invaluable at keeping us going through the difficult times.
Six months later, every parents worst nightmare was realised when Eve required CPR at home while we waited for an ambulance. Although we hope to never find ourselves in that situation again, Snowdrop provide us with regular CPR training to help us feel more confident. Eve still uses a non-invasive ventilator every night so The Snowdrop Trust provide medical care by maintaining and monitoring our medical equipment at home. We have also benefitted from their wonderful support carer, Claire, who regularly helped to look after Eve as we welcomed her little sister, Rose, into our family last year and suddenly found our hands very full!
Eve is a trooper! She has had to put up with so many hospital admissions and medical interventions but she keeps laughing and smiling through it all. She has been invited to The Snowdrop Christmas Party and Pantomime - yet another awesome event run by the trust and she cannot wait to meet Father Christmas at Butlin's!
We really hope you can help us to give something back to a charity which have helped us in so many ways and who do such an incredible job to keep children with their families, in their homes as much as possible at such difficult times. Thanks Becky and Dean x
