Parachute jump for derian house in memory of Frankie Forgione · 11 April 2011
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am doing a sponsored parachute jump in memory Frankie Forgione.
Frankie was diagnosed on the 15th march 2010 with the rare brain disease, Krabbe Leukodystrophy. This disease is terrible.
The disease most often affects infants, with onset before age 6 months, but can occur in adolescence or adulthood. Symptoms include irritability, unexplained fever, limb stiffness, seizures, feeding difficulties, vomiting, a...nd slowing of mental and motor development. Other symptoms include muscle weakness, spasticity, deafness, and blindness. There is no cure for Krabbe disease.Krabbe disease is generally fatal before age 2
Krabbe is a rare genetic disease, it effects less than 1 in 100,000. This does not meanthe effects on the children and family are any less, this is a devasating disease.
After Frankie was diagnosed within weeks he was a shadow of his former self. Frankie could no longer hold his head, swollow, smile or see. Frankie was a lovely boy, son, grandchild, newphew, friend and sadly passed away on 1st January 2011.
Frankie cauptured the hearts of many people from all over. I am doing this sponsored parachute jump for two causes. First cause is SAVE BABIES THROUGH SCREENING FOUNDATION. This charity is working in the UK to save and improve the lives of babies, through early detection and treatment of diseases through newborn screening.
We aim to prevent the early death of children resulting from Krabbes disease and other leukodystrophies that are detectable at birth through newborn screening. This disease is currently not screened for in the UK. yet all is required is a simple heal prick test. If this is diagnosed early enough it may be easier to treat. we need to raise awareness.
Secondly Derian house. This charity gave respite and support to Frankie and his family. Frankie used to go on little holidays to derian house and he would swim and go for walks with other terminally ill children.
Please help me in this parachute jump in sponsoring the above causes. thank you for your support and give generously but every penny counts
