On Sunday 12th June I will be running my first ever half marathon - 13.1 miles (eek). Accompanied by Jamie my husband, we are running in memory of my Dad to raise money for Diabetes UK and The Cliff Houlding Community Centre in Dormanstown, Redcar.

 

I have chosen to run in the Redcar half marathon as Redcar is the town where I was born and bred, and my Dad served here as a much respected and hugely missed local councillor.

 

A bit about the 2 charities I am supporting: The Cliff Houlding Centre is of course named after my Dad and does great work for the local Community. Diabetes UK carry out fantastic work, and, as an insulin dependant diabetic my Dad benefited greatly from their care and support.

As far as I am concerned, my Dad was just the greatest guy on earth who gave so much to his local community and I miss him every single day of my life. Even though no longer with us, he continues to be my biggest inspiration, even though I can hear him saying You're running 13 miles? You must be bloody mad!"

 

So far I have run further then I ever thought possible. In all weathers. And I have grown to love it. After Dad died, putting on my trainers and heading out for a run with my loyal companion Max the Labrador became my therapy. My Dad gave so much to others, if I can achieve even half of what he did I'll be happy.

 

I hope to run the entire course, with the support of my family and friends achieving this is a real possibility!
