Debbie's August 500

My August 500 · 22 June 2018
I've been inspired to do this by a bizarre combination of sources... In September I'm taking part in the Shine Night Walk, and have opted to walk the full marathon - obviously to do this you need to have some sort of training programme, so I've come up with my own unique method.
This August I'll be making my first visit to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, a couple of weeks ago I saw & fell in love with Sunshine on Leith (the musical inspired by The Proclaimers' work), and Paper Creatures Theatre worked with Mind when developing their new play Section 2.
The obvious thought process for me was: why don't I walk 500 miles during August and raise a bit of money for Mind along the way? There is logic there, however foolhardy the challenge may be. It averages out to just over 16 miles a day, which is indeed challenging - but not impossible.
So that's what I'm doing. The plus side (and the additional reason to raise money for Mind) is that this is the kickstart I really need to change my daily routines. Currently I do the usual: get up early, commute in on an iffy train & sit at my desk all day. By 'needing' to walk these extra miles it will take me away from my desk for a proper lunch break, break up my day, and build up some stamina. Exercise is also supposed to be good for your mental wellbeing (gimme those endorphins), so there isn't much of a downside.
Unless we have the rainiest August on record, in which case I'll need to invest in a wetsuit to get all these miles in!
So if you have any spare pennies, please drop them this way and give me extra motivation in this crazy task! And rest assured, once I've walked these 500 miles I will not walk 500 more...
