Lakelands Hospice provides specialist palliative care and support services for people living with cancer and heart failure. Our aim is to enhance the quality of life for those in need and their loved ones at a time of crisis and beyond in an environment that provides tranquillity, support and care.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

What a tough year and a half it has been for so many people in so many different ways. Each and every one of us has been affected one way or another, some families sadly more than others. Due to restrictions and lockdowns, fundraising for charities has obviously taken a massive hit and the time to come together and give just a tiny little bit is now more important than ever.

This year, I'm excited  to say that I’m not fundraising  alone.  My friend John, who so many of you will know as my dance partner is always up for a challenge and I'm delighted to not only have him on board with the fundraising, but also for the support of the challenge if I'm honest!

John and I are fundraising for Lakelands Hospice in Corby which is a local charity funded by the people, for the people. They are committed to providing help, day care and support to people with life limiting illnesses, as well as specialist palliative support by their hospice at home nurses for those sadly near the end of life.

They are all truly angels. Those of you who know me well will know how close to my heart I value the hospice and their services. In our most saddest of times as a family, they were there when we needed them the most.  My partner, Adam Winkworth sadly lost his battle against cancer, but without the hospice and every single person involved, his last few weeks at home would have been so very different. The services offered are nothing short of amazing and I will always continue to fundraise for Lakelands, in memory of Adam and the legacy he left.

This year myself and John are running the Virtual 2021 Virgin Money London Marathon.  We have an official place in the London Marathon but due to limited numbers and the way the event is organised this year, thousands of us will not be running in London. Instead, we all get to choose our own route of 26.2 miles and are tracked via their app to ensure we are not just lazing around on the couch!  If truth be told, John thought he was signing up for the 2022 event so to say this will be a mammoth challenge is an understatement!  We will set off at the same time as the runners in London on Sunday, October 3rd and take on this epic challenge of running the route we have created to cover the mileage required.

More information about the event itself can be found here....

The route John and I have chosen is taking us on a journey.  We will start at Northampton railway station which is where many of you will know, Adam worked for his whole career in various different roles.  We will make our way to the old Brampton Valley Way railway line along a route we have mapped out to the required mileage.  If you'd like to cheer us on or meet us along the way please do give us a message and we'll give you the route details - we'd absolutely love to see some familiar faces along the way!  26.2 miles later we will finish at Lakelands Hospice, Corby, a fitting journey to reflect on Adam's beginning to end.

Every single penny raised is received by the hospice with such gratitude. They receive absolutely no NHS or government funding and rely 100% on contributions and fundraising. Every donation, no matter how big or small helps to keep their amazing services running and allows families to access their services at their most vulnerable times.  I hope you never, ever need it but this is invaluable, please trust me.

Thank you so much for reading our page and remember, just a little goes such a long way.

For every smile and memory..... please support our fundraising. xx
